The Revenant Review

The Revenant is the most refreshing piece of film we have watched in a long time. This film is filled with breathtaking cinematography, captivating acting with the help of legends Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, and a beautiful score by Ryuichi Sakamoto. This is more than a spectacle, it tackles tough topics of cruelty between diverse groups of people, and the depravity of man. The Revenant not only poses philosophical questions, but also leaves you feeling the value of life.

Peter's Take

I cannot believe the weight The Revenant makes you feel. There’s something deeply powerful about what drives a man to survive when everything, his family, his health, his dignity, has been stripped away. It’s a brutal, almost biblical journey of suffering and endurance, like a modern-day Job forced to crawl through the wilderness just to cling to the idea of justice. You don’t just watch Hugh Glass fight to stay alive, you feel the cold in your bones, the isolation in your chest, and the fury burning beneath it all.

The score is haunting and masterful, rising and falling with the rhythm of nature and pain. Leonardo DiCaprio earned every ounce of that Oscar, his performance is raw, visceral, and wordless in all the right ways. You see it in his eyes, in his breath, in every tortured step. The supporting cast is stacked perfectly, with Tom Hardy delivering one of the most underrated villain performances of the decade. Every scene feels carefully crafted, from the unrelenting bear attack to the quiet, dreamlike visions of his son, all of it soaked in emotion and tension.

This film even evokes echoes of Gladiator in surprising ways, especially in the way Glass is driven forward by grief, love, and the haunting image of his murdered son. It’s not just a story about survival. It’s a story about revenge, about purpose, about the lengths a man will go to when the world gives him nothing but reasons to give up. The Revenant doesn’t just hit, it lingers, it freezes, and it cuts deep. This film is. Masterpiece, ill accept nothing less

Nate's Take

Wow. Just wow. I can’t believe I’ve never seen The Revenant until now. This was absolutely phenomenal from start to finish, the acting, the story, the cinematography, every frame feels like a work of art.

Tom Hardy delivers one of the most compelling villain performances I’ve seen in years, and Leonardo DiCaprio? I get it now. This is the role that finally earned him his Oscar, and he absolutely deserved it.

The sheer beauty and brutality of this film are unforgettable. Alejandro G. Iñárritu captures nature in a way that feels both terrifying and awe-inspiring, and the raw, visceral emotion kept me hooked for every second.

Easily one of my new all time favorites.

The Naked Gun (2025) Review

In this video, we break down The Naked Gun (2025), the bold reboot of the classic comedy franchise that’s got longtime fans and newcomers talking. Is this a fresh take that honors the original’s absurd genius, or a misguided swing at modern slapstick that falls flat? We cover everything from Liam Neeson’s surprising turn as Frank Drebin, the updated sight gags and celebrity cameos, and that chaotic courtroom climax… to the pacing and humor that just might hit the mark. We also dive into what worked (the commitment to the bit, some clever modern twists) and what definitely didn’t.

Peter's Take

The Naked Gun was one of the most refreshing experiences I’ve ever had in a theater, and that’s saying a lot. I was genuinely shocked by how much I laughed during this film. In an age where most studio comedies feel forced or recycled, this reboot felt like a breath of chaotic, ridiculous fresh air.

Liam Neeson fully commits to the absurdity, and it works way better than I ever expected. His dead-serious delivery, paired with the movie’s rapid-fire jokes and slapstick insanity, hits that classic Zucker-style tone while still updating the humor for modern audiences. The supporting cast is just as sharp, all playing it straight in a world that gets more unhinged by the second.

This movie doesn’t just rely on nostalgia, it earns its laughs. The jokes come fast, the editing is tight, and even when a gag doesn’t quite land, the next one usually does. It’s packed with callbacks, clever visual bits, and moments that had my theater literally erupting with laughter.

Against all odds, The Naked Gun (2025) pulls off the impossible, a reboot that’s both hilarious and respectful of what made the original great. It’s silly, it’s smart when it needs to be, and it’s easily one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in years.

Nate's Take

Comedy movie of the year. Hands down.

I went in a little skeptical, but wow, this actually nailed it. Liam Neeson is hilarious in all the right ways, the tone is pitch-perfect, and the writing? Clean, clever, and genuinely funny without relying on cheap antics or overplayed tropes.

Every joke landed. Nothing felt forced or cheesy, and the story was surprisingly engaging for a comedy. You can tell the filmmakers cared about honoring the original while creating something that stands on its own.

This isn't just a solid reboot, it's one of the best legacy sequels ever made. If you're even remotely a fan of smart, well-crafted comedy, do not skip this.

(And yeah, I'm definitely rewatching this.)

Happy Gilmore 2 Review

In this video, we break down Happy Gilmore 2, the unexpected sequel that’s got comedy fans buzzing. Is this a hilarious hole-in-one return to form for Sandler, or a forced follow-up riding on nostalgia fumes? We cover everything from the new rival, the heartwarming Carl Weathers tribute, and that bonkers final tournament… to the hit-or-miss humor that doesn’t always land. We also dive into what worked (Sandler’s chemistry with the new cast, the emotional callback moments) and what definitely didn’t.

Peter's Take

Happy Gilmore 2 tries to recapture the magic of the original, but ends up feeling more like a rushed gimmick than a worthy follow-up. Adam Sandler slips back into the role with ease, but the heart and underdog charm that made the first film so special just isn’t there this time around. The sequel leans hard into over-the-top moments and forced callbacks, often at the expense of any real emotional connection.

There are glimmers of what could’ve worked, some fun cameos, a few solid one-liners, and a brief tribute that hits the right nostalgic chord, but those are buried beneath chaotic pacing and jokes that feel louder instead of funnier. New characters are introduced without much care, and some of the story’s biggest turns feel like rash decisions made for shock rather than storytelling.

At times, the film feels like it’s trying too hard to outdo itself, losing the goofy sincerity that made the original so lovable. It’s not unwatchable, but it stumbles when it should soar. Happy Gilmore 2 earns a 2.5/5, an occasionally amusing return, but far from the comeback fans were hoping for.

Adam Sandler has stated numerous times he never makes films to please the critics, but for the viewers. It has been proven time and time again, Sandler’s films are almost never received well but often hold up when it comes to Sandler die-hards coming back to it.

Entertainment: 6/10

Quality: 4/10

Nate's Take

Happy Gilmore 2 is one of those sequels that feels like a reunion tour, fun, familiar, and packed with nostalgia, but also a reminder that the magic of the original is hard to recapture.

I had a good time. The callbacks were good, the cameos were fun, and there were some genuinely hilarious moments. But there's a reason this landed on Netflix instead of theaters. The story pushes things into absurdity that doesn’t fit the grounded charm of the first. Like, why are pro golfers getting pelted by golf balls in a sport with no contact? That worked when Happy was trying to be a hockey player, not so much here. And the whole bit with Eminem and the alligators? What even was that?

The first Happy Gilmore threw a ridiculous character into a realistic world. This sequel throws realism out the window entirely. Still, it's not without its charm. I laughed, I smiled, but I won’t be rewatching it like I do the original. This one’s destined to be a “scroll-past” movie next year. You’ll see it on Netflix and go, oh yeah, then keep scrolling.

Fun, but forgettable. Mid at best.

Thunderbolts* Review

In this video, we break down Marvel’s Thunderbolts*, the controversial new entry that has fans divided. Is this the movie that finally puts Marvel back on the rails, or is it just another mid-tier misfire with a flashy cast? We cover everything from the mental health themes, the unexpected emotional depth, and that wild third act with The Void… to the anti-climactic finale that left us a little puzzled. We also talk about what worked (Florence Pugh, David Harbour,

that nightmare sequence) and what absolutely didn’t.

Peter's Take

“The depth that I felt from Bob and his struggles with mental health left me on the edge of my seat with an eerie feeling. The unpredictability with the void and century is exactly the pacing Marvel needed to get back on track. MARVEL IS BACK”

Entertainment: 8/10

Quality: 7/10

Nate's Take

“Thunderbolts surprised me. It’s better than a lot of the recent lackluster Marvel stuff, and while it’s not breaking new ground, it’s actually worth seeing. Solid cast, decent story, and it doesn’t try to do too much, which kinda works in its favor.”

Jurassic World: Rebirth Review

In this brutally honest review, we break down Jurassic World Rebirth and explain why it left us confused, frustrated, and disappointed. Is it a fun dino adventure or a complete mess of a reboot? With awkward humor, flat character arcs, and a plot that makes Sharknado look profound, we go all in.

Peter's Take

TWO words for this film, marinated trash. The execution of the cinematography and audio design was great, but the script, the passion, and everything that goes into a film making it art and more than a lump of high production value trash was missing. This film tried way too hard to satisfy everyone and appeal to all audiences.

There is a basic formula for success when it comes to the Jurassic franchise: beautifully immersive world building, dinosaur thrills and violence, and a quest through an island. They technically tried to do that, but it was very limited. The amount of actually impressive live dinosaur shots were far and few, but then they were riddled with inconsistencies and terrible writing.

Throughout this film, I felt bored. There were a large number of times that I broke out laughing not because of how funny it was, but because of how terrible the writing was, or because lines that were supposed to be jokes seriously didn’t land.

This is a movie you don’t watch, if you consider it, then subject yourself to watching 10 hours of Fergie singing the national anthem, because that would be better

Entertainment: 4/10

Quality: 2/10

Josh's Take

Gareth Edwards, the director for both Rogue One (2016) and Godzilla (2014), has proven he can make some excellent visuals on the big screen. While I was amused by the tension and action scenes throughout Jurassic World Rebirth-- I cannot say it was for the right reasons. It quickly becomes a silly film-- almost to the point where it could become a high budget/quality Sharknado. There were plenty of menacing and bizzare looking dinosaurs to see.

Two different scripts combined into one plot. Way too much exposition. The result was lackluster and the writing gives you a headache. I wanted to turn my brain off and enjoy the action. I really did. Cannon fodder deaths can be entertaining when a negligent character deservingly falls victim to their attacker. However, this film often shows the fatalities off screen and/or doesn't do much to be unique in a fun or scary way.

**Spoilers**
Some movies are so bad that they can become an enjoyable good-bad to experience. Jurassic World Rebirth was on track for this reputation until the final act-- where the daughter's boyfriend no longer has significance and the paleontologist tries to be noble. Sam Neil was significantly better in the original Jurassic Park and Jonathan Bailey's character misses the mark.

I do not recommend watching this film, even when it comes to streaming.

Superman Review

In this spoiler-free review, we dive into James Gunn’s highly anticipated DC reboot: Does it finally put DC back on top? Is David Corenswet the Superman fans have been waiting for? And how does Lex Luthor stack up? We’ll break down: Comic book accuracy (finally!), Cast performances (Corenswet, Hoult, and more), Cinematography & sound design, the pacing and what we think about the setup for the new DCU

Peter's Take

James Gunn seemed to do the impossible with this film, revive the dying DC franchise, reboot the entire hero structure, and still create a good Superman film. This film set the bar for creating the comic book accurate hero while adding the classic James Gunn spin we always love to see. Superman doesn’t just fly, the movie soars.

This movie certainly had a lot to do in a short amount of time as this seemed to be the grand slam one hit wonder opportunity for DC to strike back and take the spot on top of the podium right from under Marvel when they are seemingly down. It has been a wonder how DC continued to fail through its recent history dispute the seasoned character arsenal it’s got. This movie definitely does a lot and felt a bit quick in the first act, but what it did was fruitful and worth the wait.

Never before have we see a such a perfectly cast superhero movie that is not only driven by fantastic actors like David Corenswet (Superman), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), and Nicholas Houston (Lex Luther), it is supported in the smaller roles by the legends Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Skyler Gizmodo (Jimmy Olsen) and Wendell Pierce (Perry White). This is a long worthy list of recognition, because I was blown away by how well they supported this film. This movie not only moved past the outdated fad of redoing superhero origin stories, but also allowed Superman to take the spotlight when necessary. This film nailed the formula when it comes to building a team and making it fun.

Entertainment: 8.5/10

Quality: 7/10

Nate's Take

James Gunn’s Superman might not be perfect, but it’s exactly what the DCU needed to reboot with heart, humor, and hope. David Corenswet delivers a warm, earnest, and heroic Superman that instantly feels iconic. He radiates kindness and strength in a way that genuinely channels the essence of Clark Kent. His dynamic with Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane feels natural and refreshingly fun, and Edi Gathegi’s Mr. Terrific nearly steals the show every time he’s on screen.

The spectacle is top-tier, especially a standout beach battle between LexCorp goons and the heroes. Gunn’s signature action flair is on full display with a continuously shot fight sequence that’s one of the film’s highlights. The story packs in a lot, and while that helps build out a new DC universe, it does come at the cost of pacing and clarity. It throws a few too many characters into the mix too fast, and some comedy beats could’ve used a trim.

That said, the tone, while occasionally wobbly, strikes a solid balance between goofy fun and emotional sincerity. Gunn’s writing reminds us that Superman isn’t just a superhero, but a symbol of empathy, courage, and idealism. It’s a movie with a beating heart and a genuine love for the source material.

It’s not the best superhero movie ever made, but it might just be the one we needed right now, and maybe it’ll finally light a fire under Marvel to step up their game.

F1 The Movie Review

Is F1 The Movie a win for racing fans or a crash and burn? We got two die hard F1 fans to join us, to dive into Brad Pitt’s newest racing drama directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick).

From the Cinematography to the story flaws, aggressive driving styles to real world F1 accuracy, we cover it all. If you’re an F1 fan wondering if this is Drive to Survive or Fast & Furious, this review is for you!

This film set the precedent for film making when it comes to quick and action packed cinematography for the racing genre. This is by far the best audio and visual experience for car enthusiasts on the big screen as it is near impossible to not feel like your in the cockpit during this film.

Peter's Take

“A high-octane thrill ride that delivers relentless speed and spectacle, both on and off the track. While the adrenaline rarely lets up, it trades depth for dazzle. Still, it sets a new bar for how racing is captured on film.”

Shutter Island Review

Some of us think it deserves its Top 150 spot. Others... are fuming it’s even in the conversation.

At first glance, the slow-burn thriller style, stunning cinematography, and DiCaprio’s performance seem like a recipe for a masterpiece.

But dig a little deeper... and cracks start to show. Predictability, lazy writing, and a twist that kills rewatchability left some of us wanting way more.

In the end, Shutter Island isn’t a bad movie, but it’s nowhere near a Top 150 all-time classic.

Depending on who you ask, it's either a misunderstood gem or a slow, overrated slog.

Mickey 17 Review

Is Mickey 17 the next sci-fi masterpiece, or is it struggling under the weight of Parasite’s success? Bong Joon-ho returns with his most ambitious project yet, starring Robert Pattinson in a mind-bending adaptation of Edward Ashton’s novel. But with sky-high expectations, does this film live up to the hype, or is it a rare misstep from one of the greatest directors of our time?

Does it match the brilliance of Parasite, or does it leave us wanting more? Join us as we explore whether this film is a cinematic triumph or a disappointing letdown.

Mickey 17 was not a bad movie, but to have Bong Joon-Ho direct this made us expect and hope for more. This movie was full of funny moments, but it seemed to be nothing more than a movie that will be forgotten in a year. Captain America: A Brave New World ended up being more of a Red Hulk movie more than anything, and there wasn’t much better than the trailer. This movies marketing campaign seemed to play on the Red Hulk being in the movie, but this pulled away any chance of Suprise.

Gladiator II Review

In our detailed review of Gladiator 2 (2024), we dive into why Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated sequel to the legendary Gladiator fails to live up to expectations. From its disjointed narrative and underwhelming character arcs to questionable creative choices, we explore the key reasons this historical epic misses the mark.

Packed with insights, the latest news, and major SPOILERS, this review unpacks whether Gladiator II was a worthy follow-up, or a pointless addition to a classic legacy. Don’t miss our breakdown of the story, performances, and whether this sequel justifies its existence.

Gladiator II was riddled with unoriginal story arcs and motivations that didn’t pull you in. Gladiator II lacked the inspiration and motivation that Maximus had, Lucius’ quick change in heart, hatred for his mother, and final story arch left us disappointed and confused.
